Canine Arthritis Management and VetPlus collaborate to deliver practical, nurse-led osteoarthritis clinic resources

Canine Arthritis Management (CAM) and VetPlus are proud to announce a new collaboration to create a comprehensive suite of paper-based and digital resources designed to support the set-up and delivery of osteoarthritis/ (OA) clinics in veterinary practice, with a clear focus on veterinary nurses.

The collaboration brings together CAM’s long-standing expertise in OA education and VetPlus’s commitment to practice-friendly solutions to common veterinary challenges. The result is a collection of evergreen materials that can be used daily in clinic, alongside a structured digital training programme to build confidence, consistency, and impact in OA management.

Built for real practice, by people who understand it

The project was deliberately ambitious. Alongside professionally designed printed assets - including screening tools, management booklets and care-plan records - the collaboration has produced a series of six concise training videos (approximately 30 minutes in total). These digital assets guide nurses through every stage of an OA clinic journey, from understanding the true prevalence and impact of OA, to screening, creating multimodal management plans, tracking progress, and navigating common challenges. The emphasis throughout is on practical application, empowering nurses to translate knowledge into confident, compassionate care.

Championing the role of nurses in OA care

OA remains one of the most significant - and frequently under-recognised - chronic conditions seen in practice. Lifestyle, environment, and long-term caregiver support play a central role in outcomes, making nurse-led clinics uniquely valuable.

These new resources are designed to:

Support early identification of OA using simple, validated screening tools
Enable holistic, multimodal management, beyond pharmaceuticals alone
Improve continuity of care, follow-up, and shared decision-making
Strengthen the role of nurses as key advocates for pets and caregivers living with chronic pain

A Shared Ethos

Reflecting on the collaboration, Hannah Capon, Founder of Canine Arthritis Management, said:

“OA continues to be a real challenge to manage in practice – it is far from simple, requiring a truly multimodal approach that includes caregiver support. A whole-practice approach is needed, one that harnesses the skill set of the entire team. Being given the opportunity to work with a company that shares this ethos, and to create evergreen materials that will genuinely help clinics develop their services, was a great end to 2025.”

David Haythornthwaite, Chaiman of VetPlus, said:

“Osteoarthritis is one of the most significant welfare challenges facing companion animals today, and veterinary nurses play a pivotal role in identifying, managing and supporting these patients long-term. We are delighted to partner with CAM to develop practical, evidence-based resources that empower nurses to run effective osteoarthritis clinics with confidence.

By equipping nurses with the right tools, education and support, we can help ensure more pets are diagnosed earlier, managed better, and ultimately enjoy a higher quality of life. This partnership reflects VetPlus’ ongoing commitment to advancing clinical standards and supporting the whole veterinary team in delivering the very best care.”

The project showcases what collaboration can deliver: high-quality, clinically relevant educational materials that support both teams and patients.
